Basketball Summer Camps

It seems the harder I work the luckier I get – Samuel Goldwyn

This summer was basketball camp heaven for me. I was able to go to four camps in the month of June alone. The first one was the KU camp in well… Kansas, the second was the Oak Hill Prep camp in Virginia, the third one was a cool Nike Camp in Los Angeles, and the last one for the month was Snow Valley Camp in Colorado. I was a bit of a globe trotter, this summer, but it was fun.

Below I am going to leave an overview of the camps and what I thought about them from a player’s perspective. I’m kind of saying it as it is being typed by my dad so there may be a little of his opinions rolled in here, but you will get the idea.

I really liked this camp a lot! It was a sleep away camp, but I drove up with my dad and brother and I did it as a day camper. I think that it is  a great way to get some fundamental training as well as the ability to use the things that you learn in a game situation.

I got to play up a grade which was really cool and our team won the 7th grade camp championship. #Billself #KUbasketballcamp #7thGradeChampions

Pros: Great Camp For Competitive Players and Beginners, Great Coaching, Really Cool Kids, Good Amount of Basketball,

Cons: There is a big two hour or so break after lunch where you have supervised free time. I didn’t really want it. I would like for it to be 100% basketball not as much free time, but I am a basketballaholic.

If you are serious basketball player and you don’t know about Oak Hill you are missing out! For those of you who don’t know this, there is a whole other level of basketball and it happens at the Basketball Prep School level. These schools allow the student athletes to focus on basketball a lot more than your regular school does. They have morning practice before school, they have evening practices after school, and on top of that they travel all over the country to play other top tier talent.

Oak Hill is kind of like the KING of High School Basketball Prep Schools! If you are wanting to be a top high school basketball player you need to do learn about this school and others like it. Their basketball season records often look like this 49-0 and 48-1 and stuff like that. Their graduates, to name a few, are Carmelo Anthony, Rajon Rondo, Kevin Durant, Michael Beasley, Brandon Jennings, Ty Lawson, and a lot more… Needless to say this camp was pretty amazing and the talent there was ridiculously good.

For instance, my camp teammate Isaiah hit 5 threes in a row during our championship game. Five…Threes…In…A…Row!!! Needless to say we kept feeding him the ball.  I killed them softly by cleaning up the boards, getting steals, setting picks and scoring a bunch of mid range jumpers. My favorite part was sealing the win with a couple of free throws after I had been fouled. #anotherchampionship #Oakhillbasketballcamp #Champions

Pros: Really Great Basketball Camp For Competitive Players, High Level Basketball Coaching, Really Cool Kids, Really Good Amount of Basketball, High Competition Level!

Cons: There is an hour or so break after lunch where you have supervised free time. Again, I didn’t really want a break. I was there to play basketball! I would like for it to be 100% basketball not as much free time, but again I am a basketballaholic.

Mose Horne - Top High School Basketball Player 2021Nike Basketball Camp

This camp was really fun. I got to go to Disney the Friday after camp which was also REALLY COOL! The camp was great! we got to work with a couple of pro players from over seas teams and we I got to work out with the high schoolers! I have to admit this camp I felt pretty baller. I got defensive player of the week which was really cool.

The only issues that I had with this camp are that we didn’t play any games and the competition level was not as high as Oak Hill was the previous week. However, this camp was all basketball all of the time. NO BREAKS!! Now we’re talking! At the end of the day I got better and I learned a lot. We did some really cool work with bands and like I said we worked from the beginning to end. #defensiveplayeroftheweek

Pros: Good Basketball Camp For Beginner Players, Great Basketball Coaching, Really Cool Kids, Most Amount of Basketball!

Cons: Mid to beginner competition level. Overall good camp!
